Hawks hire two coaches
UTICA, N.Y. » Mohawk Valley Community College recently hired two head coaches to take charge of the men’s soccer and the women’s softball programs – Dominic DiMaggio and Brittnee Mexico, respectively.
DiMaggio previously worked as part of the Southern NewHampshire University men’s soccer staff as an assistant coach, was the director of Goalkeeping for Seacoast United, and an assistant coach for the U18, U16, and U14 U.S. Soccer Development Academy Teams. DiMaggio coached in the state of New Hampshire for six years and holds his U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) D License.
DiMaggio played two sea-
sons in the Premier Development League with Seacoast Phantoms, and in 2014 was named PDL Goals Against Average Champion (0.384 GAA), was a finalist for Goalkeeper of the Year and helped guide his team to a Northeast Division Championship. In August 2015, Everybodysoccer announced that DiMaggio jumped into the current Top 100 American Goalkeepers at the No. 98 spot.
As a player at SNHU, DiMaggio was a two-year captain, 2013 NCAA Division II National Champion, and a First Team AllAmerican, holding a record of 57-6-3 between the pipes. DiMaggio ranks second in all-time shutouts at SNHU with 26, while being relieved in 10 other shutouts.
DiMaggio earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting and his master’s degree in finance, both from SNHU.
In addition to her responsibilities in leading MVCC’s softball team, Mexico also is coordinator of the student-athlete success program. She will be responsible for all facets of the program, including recruiting, scouting, game and practice preparation, and day-to-day operations in the office. She also will be in charge of working with student-athletes in various ways to ensure their success in the classroom.
Prior to joining MVCC, Mexico spent six years at Utica College in various positions, including assistant coach of the women’s soccer program, assistant coach for women’s softball, and an Academic Coaching Expert in the Office of Student Success. She also has experience working as the head modified/JV girls softball coach at Herkimer High School and holds certificates in First Aid/CPR and as an American Red Cross Lifeguard.
Shewasamember of the women’s softball and soccer teams during her time as a student-athlete at Elmira. During that time she was captain of the Elmira College softball teamfrom 2008-2010 and was named Women’s Softball Impact Player of the year in her senior campaign. She also was recognized as an Empire 8 All-Conference Second Team Selection, honored with an Academic Recognition Award from 2007-2010, and garnered the Iris Leadership Award based on academics and student leadership.
Mexico earned her bachelor’s degree in childhood education and sociology/ anthropology from Elmira College, and her master’s degree in education from Utica College.
