Tall ships in CNY

The tall ships Nina and Pinta, replicas of Columbus’ ships, are visiting Oswego for the H. Lee White Maritime Museum’s Festival of Ships. Today is the last day they will be there. They are docked at the West First Street Pier adjacent to the Maritime Museum and will be open for tours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $6 for ages 5-16. Admission for children 4 and younger is free.

From Oswego the ships will sail across Lakes Ontario and Erie to Ashtabula, Ohio and several other Great Lakes destinatio­ns.

Loaves & Fishes

The Loaves & Fishes luncheons sponsored by the Canastota Area Associatio­n of Churches will be held July 2428 in the dining room of the

United Methodist Church of Canastota, 144 Center St. from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

You are invited to come and enjoy a free hot meal and socialize with friends and have a bag lunch to take home for your supper.

Summer concerts

Here are this week’s free summer concerts.

Thunder Canyon will provide music for your listening pleasure at Chapman Park in Bridgeport on Monday, July 24 at 6 p.m. Come and enjoy pizza and drinks.

Tuesday, July 25 in Dr. West Park in Chittenang­o from 6-8 p.m., the Savannah Harmon Band will entertain you.

Sherrill’s Reilly-Mumford Memorial Park Gazebo will host Target on Tuesday, July 25 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Target loves to entertain and brings to the stage profession­alism, comedy and excitement. The group plays classics, rock & roll, a bit of jazz and R&B. Audiences everywhere love them!

The TJ Sacco Band will be on stage at the park in the Village of Sylvan Beach on Wednesday, July 26 from 7-9 p.m. Bring your dancing shoes!

In Lakeland Park in Cazenovia, E. H. Hall will be playing from 6:30-8:30 p.m. sponsored by Pelco on Thursday, July 27. Cazenovia Masonic Lodge will be providing food for the evening as well as Carol’s Food Truck.

In Canastota at the Internatio­nal Boxing Hall of Fame Pavilion on Thursday, July 27 from 6:308:30 p.m. will be the Tony Regulbuto Show in a command performanc­e.

Come see his “Vegas style” show band right in your own backyard. This Canastota native is happy to be coming home to en- tertain you. Rain date is Tuesday, Aug. 1.

In Oneida at Higinbotha­m Park on Thursday, July 27 from 6-8 p.m., Old Clay Stone will perform music by a variety of artists. Rain date is July 31.

Rabies clinic

The Madison County Health Department will sponsor a rabies vaccinatio­n clinic on Tuesday, July 25 from 5-7 p.m. in Canastota at the Fireman’s Field Hickory Street, across from Zem’s. All dogs, cats and ferrets to be vaccinated must be at least three months of age and properly restrained.

A $5 donation per pet is requested to help defray clinic costs.

Free movie

Sullivan Free Library’s Wednesday movie matinee for July 26 at 1 p.m. is titled “Alone in Berlin,” 2016, rated R, 95 minutes, starring Emma Thompson and Brendon Gleeson. The drama is about a couple who become Resistance fighters in Germany during WWII. Popcorn and admission are free. Viewers can bring their own beverage and snack.

Hamilton Library

Hamilton Public Library will hold a Little Golden Books Party on Tuesday, July 26 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Help celebrate 75 years of Golden Books — “The Fire Engine Book,” “The Animals of Farmer Jones,” “The Poky Little Puppy,” “Tootie” and “The Little Red Hen.”

There will be book readings, hands-on activities and special snacks from the Friends of the Library.

This event is recommende­d for toddlers and preschoole­rs.

Wednesday, July 26 from 3-4 p.m., Maker Day: Marble Roller Coaster for ages 5 and older. Explore physics concepts while having fun building a marble roller coaster. Loops, tunnels, curves — what will you create? Refreshmen­ts will be provided by the Friends of the Library.

Thursday, July 27, 2-4 p.m., Crafternoo­n: Nebula and Lava Bottles for ages 5 and older. What happens when you mix varying amounts of oil and water? Then add a little food coloring and maybe even some glitter? Play around with these fun chemistry experiment­s and take home your own mini nebula bottle or lava bottle. Refreshmen­ts will be provided.

Friday, July 28 at 4 p.m., Where’s Waldo Scavenger Hunt. Come help celebrate the end of Where’s Waldo Local in Hamilton. Can you find Waldo’s trail? Figure out clues to lead the way. The event starts at the library and where it will end, who knows? (Hint: this event is in collaborat­ion with the Colgate Bookstore, celebratin­g its end-of-the-month Find Waldo Local party!)

ADA Celebratio­n

A celebratio­n of the 27th anniversar­y of the Americans with Disabiliti­es Act will be held Thursday, July 27 from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Kallet Civic Center, 159 Main St., Oneida.

The event will feature a meet and greet with guest speaker Matt Hamill, mixed martial artist and wrestler who has competed in the Light Heavyweigh­t division of the Ultimate Fighting Championsh­ip followed by the official proclamati­on speakers and a celebratio­n match.

Arts in the Park

Hamilton’s Arts in the Park Series continues its series for the season on July 27 with the dazzling Amanda Rogers. Often compared to Tom Waits for her literary lyrics and Carole King for her pop sensibilit­y, CNY native Rogers has defined her musical career as an original independen­t, touring recording artist. Rogers can boast nine albums and multiple tours as well as some placements on networks such as the Discovery Channel and MTV.

Carolyn Kelly Blues Band continues the series Aug. 3 and Sheralyn Jeanne concludes the series on Aug. 10.

Performanc­es begin at 7 p.m. at the bandstand on the Village Green.

Young Naturalist­s

Cazenovia Public Library will partner with the Isaak Walton League to present the Young Naturalist­s program series for children ages 8-12. The hands-on program is designed to get young people interested in science and connected to conservati­on and outdoor recreation. The four-part series will be held July 27 and Aug. 3, 10 and 17 from 2-3:30 p.m.

Sherrill-Kenwood Fire Department Chicken BBQ: Stop by the fire department for its annual chicken barbecue.

Concerts & Fireworks: Alyssa Rose, a songwriter and guitarist who grew up in Sherrill, will perform at the Reilly-Mumford Park Gazebo from 5-6:45 p.m. followed by Matt Chase and Thunder Canyon with a mix of country and rock ‘n’ roll from 7:45-9:45 p.m. Fireworks will follow the concerts.

Brew at the Zoo

Brew at the Zoo... and Wine Too, Rosamond Gifford Zoo’s annual fundraiser benefittin­g the care and feeding of its animals and its education programs, will take place Friday, Aug. 4 from 5:30-8 p.m.

Guests will taste more than a dozen regional wines and 50 different beers, eat delicious food and enjoy music.

John Brown Lives

The John Brown Lives traveling exhibit “Dreaming of Timbuctoo” will be open from noon to 4 p.m. six afternoons a week until Saturday, Aug. 5 (Emancipati­on Day) at the Garret Smith Estate National Historic Landmark in Peterboro.

The exhibit describes Gerrit Smith’s 1846 gift of 40 acres of land to each of 3,000 black men in order to assure voting rights, the persons who moved to the Lake Placid area to work their land and the ongoing archeologi­cal work at the site of the 120,000 acres that came to be known as Timbuctoo.

The exhibit is funded in part by a Humanities New York Action/Vision Grant.

Admission to the Gerrit Smith Estate National Historic Landmark and Dreaming of Timbuctoo exhibit is $5, free for students. It is open from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

Christmas in July

Second Chance Thrift Shoppe of CNY, Inc. is having a Christmas in July sale every Friday and Saturday in July from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

All Christmas items throughout the shop will be 50 percent off. The shop is located on Route 20, a half mile west of Morrisvill­e.

Second Chance Thrift Shoppe is a not-for-profit organizati­on operated solely by volunteers and all merchandis­e is acquired through donations. Net proceeds are donated to local animal rescue organizati­ons.

The Cottage Lawn Farmers Market on the grounds of the Madison County Historical Society, 435 Main St., Oneida, continues on Tuesdays from 3-7 p.m. Come shop for fresh local, seasonal produce, meat, eggs, cheese, baked goods and other items.

Legion Bike Show

The Munnsville American Legion Riders Post 54 will hold their 4th Annual Bike & Swap Meet on Saturday, July 29 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Legion, 6311 E. Hill Road. All bikes are welcome. Free vendor spaces and on-site camping will be available.
