Swistaks celebrate 50 years of marriage
John and Cookie (Stagnitti) Swistak celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on April 8with a trip to Las Vegas.

During their stay at The Venetian, Cookie finally got to ride her gondola with a handsome man singing in Italian and of course also with husband John. After spending time in Vegas, the couple traveled to West Palm Beach, Fla. to visit their son, John Jr., a deputy sheriff with Palm Beach County.
John served with the United State Air Force for 20 years, also serving in Vietnam from 1965-1966. John did a lot of traveling overseas while in the Air Force. The couple lived in Bedford, Mass., where their son was born, then to Ha- waii for four years and Ellsworth AFB in Rapid City, S.D. for eight years. John retired from the Air Force 1980, moving back to Canastota, where he worked as superintendent at Noyes Manor in Sherrill for 34 years.
Cookie worked at General Electric in Syracuse as a secretary in the drafting department for seven years before heading to Hansom Air Force Base, Mass. She currently works as a receptionist for The Arc of Madison-Cortland.
Cookie and John were married at St. Agatha’s Church, Canastota on April 8, 1967. The Rev. Edward A. McDowell celebrated the nuptial Mass and performed the double ring ceremony.
