ZEPHYRHILLS, FLA. » Lloyd T. Dixon, 88, Zephyrhills, Fla., formerly of Sherrill, N.Y., passed away peacefully at home on Aug. 7, 2017. He was born Sept. 29, 1928 to Harold and Lena (Nusser) Dixon of Westmoreland, N.Y. Lloyd graduated from Westmoreland High School.

After high school, he played Sherrill Legion Post baseball and then moved into the Sherrill, N.Y. CAC team right out of high school. Over the years, Lloyd played on several semi-pro baseball teams, and was drafted by the New York Giants baseball team. A leg injury probably cost him a Major League contract. Lloyd was also a member of the CAC bowling league, bowling for Janowski Farms of Vernon Center, N.Y. Lloyd was employed by Oneida Ltd in Sherrill, N.Y. for 43 years. He was a skilled tinsmith, often crafting tool boxes, bird houses, flower pots and milk buckets for his family in his spare time.

Lloyd met and married the love of his life, Connie Dixon, on Oct. 1, 1955 at Holy Trinity Church in Utica, N.Y. He will always be remembered for the avid devotion he gave to his wife and family. They were an inspiration as a couple and amazingly kind and patient but firm parents. They raised their children with life skills and taught them to respect all. Lloyd was a soft spoken, kind hearted, wise and generous man who was always quick to give a witty, humorous one liner or one of his infamous bear hugs. Lloyd was the absolute epitome of a kind and gentle soul.

Surviving are daughter, Laurie Dixon, Zephyrhills, and Cherry Sharp of Zephyrhills; son, Douglas Dixon, of Fort Collins, Colo. and Anna Ma- rie Dufresne of Brookfield, Conn.; grandsons Spencer Dixon (Chelsea) of Corvallis, Ore. and Noah Dixon of New Milford, Conn.; as well as several nieces, nephews, godchildren and cousins. He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Dorothy White and Pauline McGovern, and two brothers, Walter and Jerry.

The family wishes to thank Gulfside Hospice for their care. In lieu of memorial services, contributions may be considered to: The Sherrill Silversmiths, 377 Sherrill Road, Sherrill, N.Y. 13461 or The Sherrill Post #230 Legion Baseball, 168 E. Seneca St., Sherrill, N.Y. 13461.
