ROME » Barbara G. (Dishburger) Baker, 79, passed away on Aug. 10, 2017 at Rome Memorial Hospital. She was born in Rome on July 15, 1938, the daughter of George and Neva Gerene (Scofield) Dishburger. She was a member of the 1957 graduating class at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School. On April 30, 1983, she married Ervin Baker. He passed away July 28, 1995.

Barbara retired from the Rome Developmen­tal Center and CNY DSO after 22 years of service.

She loved to crochet and made blankets, baby clothing, doll clothing that she displayed and sold at various craft fairs. She truly enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with her grandchild­ren and greatgrand­children.

Barbara is survived by a son, Clayton (Amy) Carey of Camden; a daughter, Verneil (Waudby) Richards and her companion, Theodore L. Johnson Jr., of Westmorela­nd; a brother, Steven (Lorraine) Dishburger of New London; a sister, Mary (Walter) Rutz of Munns- ville; seven grandchild­ren, Trudy Carey, Nathaniel (Jessica Ackerman) Carey, Melinda (Sheldon Waterman) Carey, Keith (Erin Murphy) Richards, Travis Richards, Amanda (Josh) Richards Waclawski, and Gage Baker; five greatgrand­children, Kylie, Brooklyn, Aubrie, Ava, and Nina; and several nieces and nephews.

Barbara’s family would like to thank the staff at Rome Memorial Hospital’s Residentia­l Healthcare Facility for the wonderful care and support given to her and her family. They were very supportive of the family and very compassion­ate to Barbara dur- ing her time there. Special thanks to Gail, Robin, and Russell. Her family can never thank you enough for the extra effort and extra care that you provided.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 19, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery in Churchvill­e followed by a celebratio­n of life gathering.

Arrangemen­ts have been entrusted to Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome.
