NYS Fair opens Wednesday
GEDDES, N.Y. » After breaking the attendance record in 2016, the New York State Fair will open for its 171st year on Wednesday.
Wednesday also marks an earlier opening, giving fair goers an extra day to explore. The last time the Fair increased its length was in 1990 when it the schedule was expanded from 10 to 12 days.
The Fair’s newest day, dubbed Governor’s/Preview Day, offers special $1 admission. Typical admission, barring any other special day deals, is $10 per person with children 12 and under receiving free admittance.
For equine lovers, Wednesday begins bright and early at 7 a.m. with a palomino horse show at the Toyota Coliseum.
Beginning at 10 a.m., a plethora of other activities begin, including a ship building demonstration, Bridge Street Live at the Fair, and a live blacksmith shop.
The New York State Police will also be performing mounted team demonstrations and vehicle roll over simulations on Wednesday at noon.
New York State Sen. Joseph Griffo will partici- pate in a cooking demonstration at the Wegmans Demonstration Kitchen at 2 p.m.
3 Doors Down will open the Chevy Court concert series with an 8 p.m. show on Wednesday.
Throughout the 13 day event, general admission gates open at 7 a.m. daily and close at 10 p.m., except for Labor Day, when the entire grounds close at 9 p. m. Similarly, exhibit buildings are open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m, with the exception of Labor Day.
The Midway is open 10 a.m. until 11 p.m. except on Labor Day when it too is scheduled to close at 9 p.m. Midway closing times are subject to change without notice.
