Rachel P. Smith, 96, of Whitesboro

WHITESBORO » Rachel P. Smith, 96, of Whitesboro passed away peacefully while in her sleep at her home on Sunday, Aug. 20, 2017.

Rachel was born on Oct. 25, 1920 in Farnham, Quebec, Canada a daughter of the late George and Wilhelmina (Desroches) Pare’. At the age of three she moved to Whitesboro. She was a graduate of Whitesboro High School and attended business college at CCB in Syracuse.

On Sept. 3, 1955 she was united in marriage to Jack Smith. Mr. Smith passed away on March 15, 1996.

She was employed with the United States Dept. of Agricultur­e at the Oneida County Branch.

She was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s in Whitesboro.

Rachel is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Kathy Smith of Durhamvill­e and a daughter, Lori Shaffer of Penfield. She also leaves a granddaugh­ter, Allison Corse of Bolton, Vt. and a grandson, Jeffrey Shaffer of Ithaca. She leaves a sister-in-law, Ruth Pare’ of Oriskany and a brotherin-law, Don Teska of Martville as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predecease­d by her sisters Joan Bauza and Frances Teska and brothers Gerard Pare’, Lawrence Pare’ and Roger Pare’

Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated on Friday, Aug. 25, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Whitesboro. There are no public calling hours. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the Memorial Mass. Arrangemen­ts are with the Dimbleby Funeral Homes Inc., 40 Main St., Whitesboro
