Hubert K. “Sonny” Bennett, 86, of Hamilton
HAMILTON » Hubert K. “Sonny” Bennett, 86, Airport Road, formerly of Pratts Hollow, Inlet and St. Augustine, Fla., passed away Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017, peacefully with his family by his side.
Born on June 3, 1931, in Oneida, he was the son of Hubert J. and Ruth Murphy Bennett. A 1950 graduate of Stockbridge Valley High School, Sonny played football, basketball and baseball. He married his high school sweetheart, Jane Ann Marshall, in 1951. Sonny spent his early years at Oneida Limited in the knife plant and was an apprentice in the machine shop. In 1961, he started his own business, Bennett’s Sunoco, in Munnsville, until 1981. He eventually partnered and later became sole proprietor of Law Manufacturing, a machine shop in Vernon. In his retirement, Sonny enjoyed tennis and dancing with his sweetheart in St. Augustine, Fla. and summers in the Adirondacks.
A devoted father of six, Sonny was predeceased by his son, Thomas in 2002, his wife, Jane Ann in 2007 and his sister, Diane Halko in 1998. He is survived by his children, Terrance and Kathy Bennett of Nelson, Sherry “Polly” and William Boulter of Webster, Stephen and Jackie Bennett of Manlius, Janet and Thomas King of Hamilton and Sulyn and Mark Hennessey of Fairport; 22 grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, with more on the way.
Friends may join the family, in a celebration of his life, at the Munnsville American Legion, 6311 E. Hill Road, Munnsville, on Thursday, Aug. 31 from 5-8 p.m. Contributions, in his memory, may be made to the Residents’ Fund at Crouse Community Center, 101 South St., Morrisville, N.Y. 13408.
