CANASTOTA » Dominick D. “Chick” Spadter, 81, Edgewater, Fla., formerly of Canastota, died Friday morning, Sept. 8, 2017 in his sleep, in the Buffalo area, after arriving the previous evening from Florida, to be with his family during Hurricane Irma.

Born in Canastota, on Oct. 1, 1935, he was a son of David F. and Carmella “Carrie” Auselio Spadter. A resident of Canastota until the late 1980s, moving to Florida, Chick was a grad- uate of Canastota High School, Class of 1953, where he excelled and was recognized in football and wrestling.

Prior to his retirement, Chick was employed with the Carrier Corporatio­n and also tended bar at the former White Elephant Restaurant in Canastota. When he resided in Canastota, he was a communican­t of St. Agatha’s Church. He was most proud of his Italian heritage and his childhood days spent working on his parents’ muck lands.

Surviving are his former wife, the former Carman Dianne Falasco of East Syracuse; his three daughters and one son-inlaw, Mary Katherine Calcagino of Syracuse, Carrie and Ron Gardner of Buffalo and Kristine Robinson of East Syracuse; his three grandchild­ren, Daniel Mariano, Joseph Mc Craw and Samantha Robinson; and his great-granddaugh­ter, Lilly Mariano. He was predecease­d by his brother, Joseph Spadter.

Funeral services will be held 9:30 a.m., Friday from St. Agatha’s Church, where the Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Stephen Wirkes, pastor. Interment will be made St. Agatha’s Cemetery. There are no hours of visitation. Contributi­ons, in his memory, may be made to St. Agatha’s Bereavemen­t Committee, 329 N. Peterboro Street, Canastota, N.Y. 13202.
