CANASTOTA » George L. Smith of Canastota was welcomed into Heaven on Sept. 10, 2017.

He was born Jan. 29, 1931 to William Harry and Frances Roundy-Groesbeck Smith. George served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Mary Jane Reed in 1955.

In his earlier years he worked for Diemolding. He was a very caring man who loved spending time with his family. He had a great passion for music and photography.

He is survived by George (Evelyn) Smith, Randy (Christine) Smith, Donna (Scott) Youngs, Raymond (Jane Mills) Smith, Darlene (Paul) Deeley, Denise (Rod) Davis, Darrin (Cheryl Steffen) Smith, Mishelle (Andy) Brumber, Julie Smith, Paul Fuller, Debbie Smith; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, CheChe Gustin; his brother, John Groesbeck; his sister-in-law, Carol Avery; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother and father; two brothers, Bill Smith and Stanley Avery; a sister, Laura Wheeler, and a nephew, Billy Wheeler.

A private graveside service will be held at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main St., Oneida.
