A pair of Colgate wom- en’s soccer players picked up Patriot League weekly awards for their parts in Colgate’s 2- 0 week, the league announced Monday afternoon. Sophomore Mara Cosentino earned the league’s Offensive Player of the Week award, while firstyear Ellis Miller claimed Rookie of the Week laurels.
Cosentino scored the game-winning goal in Colgate’s 1-0 win at Syracuse Thursday. Senior Emily Crichlow passed the ball across the box to Cosentino, who made a one-move cut around an Orange defender and sent the ball into the far post to give Colgate a 1-0 lead it wouldn’t relinquish. Cosentino’s goal was the first goal that Syracuse had surrendered in over 213 minutes of play. The last goal the Orange had given up was against No. 8 Florida on Aug. 27. The win secured the Raiders’ first road victory at Syracuse since 2006. This is the first Patriot League weekly honor of Cosentino’s career.
Miller scored the gamewinning goal in Colgate’s 2-1 victory at defending America East champ Albany Sunday afternoon. The game was tied at 1-1 before Miller sent an absolute beauty from the edge of the 18-yard box over the Albany keeper’s head into the far post to give the Raiders a 2-1 advantage in the 70th minute. It marked the first goal of Miller’s Colgate career and helped the Raiders secure their second-straight win.
