WAMPSVILLE, N.Y. » The contents of the Madison County Courthouse will move to its new location next week.
Courthouse operations will be moved from its current location to the former Oneida Limited administration building on Kenwood Avenue in Oneida. The move is expected to start Sept. 18, with court reopening the following week, County Administrator Mark Scimone said.
Tuesday, the Board of Supervisors signed off on a $163,000 expenditure for the move. The county will hire Greater-Syracuse Moving Company for $164,344 to move court operations to the new location and then back when renovations are completed. The state has said it will fully reimburse the county for those costs.
The board also approved an agreement with MadisonOneida BOCES to provide courier services during the reno- vation project. The contract will cost $500 per month – an estimated total of $9,500 through the spring of 2019. The New York State Office of Court Administration will fully reimburse the county for those costs.
The selection of contractors to complete the renovation was also finalized by the board Tuesday. Murnane Building Contractors, of Whitesboro, will be hired as the general contractor for $8.8 million; King & KingMechanical, of Auburn, will be hired for HVAC work for $1.5 million; H.J. Brandeles Corp., of Utica, will be hired for plumbing work for $775,000 and Ridley Electric Company, of Syracuse, will be hired for electrical work for $1.4 million.
Renovations are expected to start in November, Scimone said. The $20 million project will make sure the 100-yearold courthouse is handicapped accessible and Americans with Disabilities Act compliant. Work is estimated to be complete in spring of 2019.
