Cooking, TED Talks and the Canal
In October, the Canastota Public Library is gearing up its fall programming efforts with new story hours, cooking demonstrations, another TED Talk, a new Canal Town Talk and the Annual Friends of the Library Book Sale.
The library will be closed on Monday, Oct. 9 for Columbus Day.
Loreen Collins is the artist on display in the Lawson Community Room for October. The show will feature some new pieces recently painted while Collins was on an art retreat on the coast of Maine. An artist’s reception will be held Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. in the Lawson Community Room.
Baby and Me Lapsit with Miss Angela returns on Oct. 11 for children 2 and younger. The program runs each Wednesday at 10 a.m. through Dec. 20.
Storytime with Mrs. Liz will start up on Thursdays at 10 a.m. beginning Oct. 12 through Dec. 21. The one-hour program for preschoolers features readaloud stories, games, crafts and a snack.
On Thursday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m., the Canalside Talk will feature “Boom and Bust: America’s Journey on the Erie Canal,” a 30 minute documentary that examines the economic boom created by the Erie Canal’s trade routes.
The TED Talk at noon on Oct. 17 will feature Barbara Henderson, executive director of the Great Swamp Conservancy, with “Nature is Everywhere – We Just Need to Learn to See It.”
Library staff member Angela Rigler presents “Cooking with Angela” on Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. in the Lawson Community Room. The menu will consist of a roasted butternut squash quinoa salad and a pumpkin ravioli. Recipes and some of Rigler’s special tips will be available in handout format for attendees. Reservations are required due to space limitations.
