Following the retirement of Mary Bartlett, Madison County has appointed Annette Clark as coordinator.

WAMPSVILLE » Madison County Department of Solid Waste has appointed Annette Clark as recycling coordinator.

Under the direction of Sharon Driscoll, the department’s media director, Clark fills a vacancy left by Mary Bartlett, who retired.

Clark returns to the Madison County area after working in education in South Carolina, most recently as an adjunct instructor with York Technical College in Rock Hill. Previously, she worked at Carrier Corporation in East Syracuse and for the Manlius Publishing group of weekly newspapers. Clark started as editor of the ChittenangoBridgeport Times and ended as managing editor for the chain. She was a contributor to local publications for the Chittenango Rotary Club, the Chittenango Landing Canal Museum, and the Central New York Chapter of the American Society for Training and Development. She has been a communications freelancer for many years and currently blogs about writing tips.

“I am so excited to be working with one of the leading municipal solid waste departments in the country,” Clark said. “I have followed the county’s developments in recycling and alternative energy systems with great interest over the years. Madison County is so much farther advanced in environmentally responsible waste management than anywhere else I have lived. (Director) Jim Zecca and Sharoan Driscoll have blazed quite a trail in the industry. I am proud of the opportunity to be part of it.”

Clark will prepare presentations about the department’s many programs; prepare public relations materials, reports and press releases about recycling and waste reduction; conduct tours of the landfill, recycling center, gas-to- energy facility, solar array and scrap metal facility for school and community groups; and coordinate seasonal recycling events and programs.
