ONEIDA » Lois J. Dunn, 92, of 532 Lynnburt St., Oneida, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2017, at Oneida Healthcare following a lengthy stay at the Extended Care Facility after suffering a stroke.

Lois was born on July 9, 1925, in Oneida, the fourth and youngest child of Laverne R. and Claudia Johnston Jones. A lifelong resident of Oneida, she was a 1943 graduate of Oneida High School. She graduated from the Powelson Business Institute in Syracuse, Class of 1945.

During her working years, Lois worked for the Jones Bros. Stationery and Wallpaper (her family’s store in the old Drake Building on Lenox Avenue), the sales office of Oneida Limited, the National Casket Co., as well as the Oneida Valley National Bank (now NBT Bank), retiring from there in 1987. She always took pride in giving personal, friendly service to all her bank customers at the “drive-in” windows that she worked. In her retirement years, Lois worked for five years as a substitute aide in the Oneida City School District.

Lois was a very caring person who always wanted to do nice things for people, even if they were strangers. Lois loved doing crafts, especially ceramics. She took pride in her flower gardens, and loved her cats. On more than one occasion, she adopted a homeless stray, which Lois domesticated and loved as if it were raised by her from a kitten. Her last cat, “Jeter,” would occasionally visit her at the ECF. She would look forward to her many visits with him at home.

Lois was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Oneida. She also enjoyed attending services with friends at St. Paul’s United Methodist, Oneida, and felt she was a part of both churches.

Surviving is her son, John T. (Jack) Dunn, of Oneida and several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her parents, and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Gwen (Del) Fulmer and Alberta (Charles) Page; and one brother and sister-in-law, Roland (Margaret) Jones.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017, at 11 a.m. from the First United Methodist Church, corner of Main and Grove streets, Oneida with the Rev. Abigail Browka officiating. Interment will be made in Glenwood Cemetery, Oneida. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made in Lois’s memory to the First United Methodist Church, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, or the Rome Humane Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ironside Funeral Home, Inc., 342 Main St., Oneida.
