Colgate men’s ice hockey sophomore goaltender Colton Point ( North Bay, Ontario) made 38 saves Friday night as the Raiders held on to knock off the MerrimackW­arriors, 2-1, at Class of 1965 Arena.

Point allowed just one goal for the second straight game as he stood tall between the pipes, recording his fourth most saves in a game in his young career.

Point’s 17 first period saves are his second most in a single-period in his career after making 18 in the third period at Quinnipiac on Jan. 13.

Jared Cockrell (Readfield, Maine) continued his impressive start to the sea- son with his third goal in two gameswhile­Mike Panowyk (Whitby, Ontario) tallied his first.

Morrisvill­e State Men’s Soccer

Freshman Brendan Valverde collected the hat trick on three scores to lead the visiting Penn St. – Berks men’s soccer team to a 4-1 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory over host Morrisvill­e State College Saturday afternoon in Morrisvill­e.

The loss for the Mustangs (3-7-0, 2-2-0NEAC) is the first to the Nittany Lions dating back to the 2011 season when they dropped the 2-1 conference decision on Oct. 9.

Three different Colgate women’s ice hockey players scored goals Friday night as the Raiders kicked of the 2017-18 season with a 3- 0 shutout of the St. Cloud State Huskies Friday afternoon at Class of 1965 Arena.

Colgate’s shutout in the season opener was its firstever shutout in the first game of the season since the team was elevated to varsity competitio­n for the 1997-98 season. In another bit of history, Colgate’s seven shots on goal allowed are the fewest since allowing five at Union on Feb. 18, 2005.
