Nina M. (Hurd) Healy, 74, of Sherrill

SHERRILL » Nina M. (Hurd) Healy, 74, Sherrill, N.Y. and Lakeland, Fla., passed away peaceful l y at home on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017. She was born on Feb. 2, 1943 in Oneida, the daughter of the late Willard and Rita (Jordan) Hurd. Her father died at a very young age and she was raised by her mother and stepfather, Walter Buyea.

Nina graduated from Oneida High School, Class of 1961, SUNY-Morrisvill­e with a degree in dietary science in 1963. While at SUNY-Morrisvill­e, Nina met her future husband, Jim. They were married in St. Patrick’s Church in Oneida on Oct. 24, 1964.

Nina and her mother, Rita, operated Hurd’s Beauty Shop, Oneida for many years and briefly was first employed with the former Rome Developmen­tal Center. She was also very involved with the family business, Buyea’s Inc. on Phelps Street in Oneida. Nina was the organist and choir director for over 20 years at St. Helena’s Catholic Church, Sherrill. Following that, she was organist at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Verona.

Upon retirement, Nina enjoyed traveling with her husband and spending winters at their home in Florida. She volunteere­d with the Red Cross, served at the election polls and crocheted many afghans for family, friends and charity.

Nina’s favorite times were spent with family — her husband, Jim of Sherrill; children: Julie of Sherrill, James (Cindy) of Fort Covington, N.Y. and Robert (Molly) of Sherrill; beloved grandchild­ren — Daniel, Matthew(Lindsey Landis, fiancee) and Emily of Fort Covington and Ella of Sherrill; her sister, Linda (Tim) Richter; brothers-in-law, John and Bob (Patricia) Healy of Auburn and Charles (Kathie) Healy of Chenango Forks and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:15 a.m., Thursday fromthe Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, 260 Main St., Oneida and 12 p.m. from St. Helena’s Church, Sherrill, where the Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. William Mesmer, pastor. Interment will be made in Glenwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home, 4-8 p.m., Wednesday.
