ONEIDA » David T. Clancy, 86, a resident at Brookdale in Clinton formerly of Earl Ave. died Monday, Oct. 23, 2017, in St. Elizabeth Hospital where he was admitted as a surgical patient on Oct. 15, 2017.

David was born on Nov. 2, 1930, in Oswego, N.Y., the son of Frederick H. and Anna Butler Clancy. He married Harriet C. O’Donnell on Aug. 18, 1956 in St. Mary’s Church Oswego, N.Y. Mrs. Clancy died on Nov. 1, 2008.

David was a graduate of Oswego High School and a 1952 graduate of the State University of Oswego. Mr. Clancy also obtained his master’s degree from Oswego and did graduate work at Syracuse University, Albany, Plattsburg, St. Lawrence and Utica College.

Prior to his retirement in 1991, Mr. Clancy was principal of Seneca Street School in Oneida for 31 years. He also served as principal of Washington Avenue School and Oneida Castle Elementary School for several years.

Mr. Clancy was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He served from 1952-1954 where he was stationed in Winthrop, Mass. before he was honorably discharged.

Mr. Clancy was a communican­t of St. Patrick’s Church Oneida, where he served as Eucharisti­c Minister and Lector, and was a former president of the Holy Name Society. He is an honorary member of the Powhatan Club, honorary life member of the E. Bart Hanifin Council No. 473 Knights of Columbus, Oneida Elks Lodge BPOE No. 767, Oneida Retired Teachers Associatio­n, Oneida’s Club, former member of the original Board of Directors of the School Administra­tors Associatio­n of N.Y.S. and a past member and former president of the Oneida Area Day Care Center and United Way of Greater Oneida. He was also an honor- ary member of the DKUV. He also served on the Oneida City Water Board for 30 years and as chairman of the Board for over 20 years.

Surviving are, three sons and one daughter-inlaw, Brian D. and Diane Clancy of Winthrop, Mass., Paul F. Clancy of Grand Rapids, Mich. and Brad D. Clancy of Raleigh, N.C.; two daughters and one sonin-law, Carol E. Clancy of Oneida and Nora C. and Daniel Flynn of Charleston, S.C.; one sister-inlaw, Beverly Clancy of Oswego; 10 grandchild­ren, Matthew, Scott and Kevin Clancy, Sydney and David (Elyse) Sherry, John, William and Joseph Clancy and Margaret and Allyson Flynn and several nieces and nephews and cousins. He was predecease­d by his parents and his wife Harriet and four brothers, Joseph F., John E., Frank H. and infant Robert, and two sisters, Catherine C. White and Helen C. Bellamy.

The family wishes to thank all of the staff at Brookdale in Clinton for all of the kindness and compassion shown to Dave over the last 2 ½ years.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017, beginning with a 10:30 a.m. Prayer Service at the Ironside Funeral Home, Inc., and a 11 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Patrick’s Church, 347 Main St., Oneida, celebrated by the Rev. Richard J. Kapral. Interment will take place in St. Patrick’s Cemetery at the convenienc­e of the family. Family and friends are invited and may call on Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home, 342 Main St., Oneida. Memorial contributi­ons may be made in David’s memory to St. Patrick’s Church Memorial Fund, 347 Main St., Oneida, N.Y. 13421.
