Halloween is just around the corner

- Carol Weimer

Halloween is next Tuesday, but this weekend seems to be mostly when the activities and celebrations will be held. However, there will be entertainment and trick or treaters out on that night, too. You couldn’t know what day it is because all of the stores have been decorated with Halloween facts for weeks here in our communities.

If you haven’t already got your costume or a vision of something you will put together, then time is running out. The costumes this year are really numerous with almost any kind of person or something you might want to be, there is a huge selection. Take time if you can when shopping to look them over they are so decorative, pretty, horrific if that is what you want to be. There are advertisements on TV of your choice of “what you want to be” is really startling as far as I’m concerned, but I’m not dressing up in a costume this year, I will be the “door answer” person. So be it glamorous, hideous or humorous have a happy and dressy time this year.

Certainly our surrounding communities seem to have gone all out for this holiday this year. Does it seem to you there seems to be a lot more celebrations than ever? For instance the RosamondGifford Zoo has the Zoo Boo that really sounds like fun for child and even adults... Paws ‘n’ Pumpkin had a Wanderers Rest presentation at Army Carinci Park in Oneida... The Great Swamp Conservancy is holding Halloween Fun Days the non-scary type with fun and adventure... the Holiday Motivators will hold a Halloween Dance for folks with developmental disabilities which is really thoughtful and entertaining... Hamilton Library will have store-to-store treat for kids in costume for trick or treats as well as a street (road) parade for everyone who wishes to march with costumes... as well as the Colgate Bookstore in Hamilton and all Hallow’s Eve to discounted chocolate and Spirits stores... teens and adults 16 and up with LITERARY Pumpkin display contest of your favorite book character on display with winners announced following Halloween (this is an adult project).

The Kallet Civic Center is hosting a “Zombie Prom” for adults that is really going to something new for adults dressed in Zombie Best... Oneida Library will have a special preschoolers Halloween Party with stories, games, candy and more with preschoolers dressed in costumes and participating in a Ragamuffin Parade... even the dead will be acknowledged with “Halloween Haunts” with the Mansion House in Oneida holding a cemetery tour on Oct. 28 for those invited to attend... in Cazenovia the Cemetery Tour will be held in Evergreen Cemetery over the Halloween dates... the Farnam House in Oneida, with ghosts... Sylvan Beach Amusement Park syfy’s “Ghost Hunters” found in “Yesterday’s Royal” and in Chittenango at the Landing Canal Boat Museum its best known that the Erie Canal dry docks are allegedly haunted by victims of thieves and murderers who were searching for justice... I could go on and on but it is time to give you enough thoughts if you care to seek some amusement this holiday. It seems to be that this year has been even bigger than ever. Some for little ones and adults but for fun and commercialism. Have a Happy Halloween!
