Reinhardt has proven record as supervisor

-

As we approach Election Day, I am seeking re-election as your Madison County Supervisor. Again I thank you, the residents of Oneida, Wards 1, 2, and 3, for your kind words and support during my 10 years serving as your Supervisor.

Qualifications, experience, and a proven time commitment are necessary to successfully serve as a Madison County Supervisor. I have served as a member of the Oneida Common Council as well as the County Industrial Development Agency, COMCO Development Corporation, CNY Regional Economic Development Council, and Oneida Area Industries. These four agencies assisted Madison County in attracting and developing new and expanding businesses, as well as the sites within the county in which to locate, together with providing funding opportunities and accompanying jobs. My community and other activities have included the Oneida City Hospital Board of Managers and its Foundation, Salvation Army Advisory Board, Oneida Rotary Club, School District Treasurer, Greater Oneida Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, and United Way of Greater Oneida.

As your Supervisor, my current Board Committee assignments include chairman of the Finance Ways and Means Committee and vice-chairman of the Government Operations Committee. The Finance Ways and Means Committee responsibilities include coordinating the preparation and administration of the County Budget with the County Treasurer. Each year I meet with the County Treasurer and each department head individually to discuss and review their specific budget requests in detail for the following year. Additional responsibilities include Real Property Tax Services, County Clerk, and Department of Motor Vehicles.

The county’s municipal bond rating has been upgraded to its present AAlevel which will result in lower borrowing costs, particularly in view of the courthouse renovation which is required to be in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The cost for long-term catastrophic health insurance has been reduced by an average of over $150,000 per year.

The Government Operations Committee is charged with responsibility for personnel, Civil Service, labor relations, health insurance and benefits, and numerous ancillary responsibilities, and other personnel functions. Since 2012, the number of Madison County full-time employees has been reduced by approximately 9 percent while concurrently delivering the same or increased level of services. Where possible and justified, we are continuing to consolidate departmental activities for an even more costefficient operation.

Time commitment involves much more than attending monthly Board meetings and monthly Board Committee meetings. Throughout the year, additional meetings are called on an “as needed” basis; I have not been absent from any Board or Committee meeting in my 10 years on the Board. While sometimes perceived as a “part-time” position, a County Supervisor is indeed a full-time responsibility, and that requires full-time attention, one which I gladly serve. I look forward to my continuing participation, while providing continuity to the Board’s efforts.

With the support of the residents of City of Oneida, Wards 1, 2, and 3, I will continue to be “your voice” on the Madison County Board of Supervisors.

John A. Reinhardt, Madison County Supervisor City of Oneida, Wards 1, 2,

and 3
