Pasquale “Pat” Mercuri, 88, of Rome

ROME » Pasquale “Pat” Mercuri, 88, of Rome, passed away on Monday, Oct. 30, 2017, at the Martin Luther Home in Clinton. He was born in Scranton, Pa., on Nov. 18, 1928, the son of the late Louis and Mary Rose Michicci Mercuri. He was united in marriage to the former Vivian Morrison on Oct. 26, 1951. She passed away on July 9, 2008.

Pat served his country in the US Army and Merchant Marines during World War II. After being honorably discharged, he worked as a waiter at the Copley Plaza in Boston, Mass., where he met his future bride. They moved to Rome to start a family when he went to work for the Federal Government at Griffiss Air Force Base.

He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Rome. He was also a member of the Henry P. Smith Post No. 24 American Legion and the Roman-Hatheway Lodge No. 223 Masonic Lodge of Rome.

Pat taught HVAC at Mohawk Valley Community College for several years. He also enjoyed woodworkin­g and cabinet making, and he and his wife volunteere­d with Habitat for Humanity on several different projects.

He is survived by two daughters, Sharon (Dr. John) George of Verona and Sandra (Bruce O’Brien) Stage of Liverpool; four grandchild­ren, Mary Jenna (Nicholas) Onody, Dr. Benjamin (Kerry Duignan) George, Andrew Stage, and Collin Stage; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church. Interment will take place in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call on Friday from 4-7 p.m. at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome. In lieu of flowers, contributi­ons in Pat’s memory may be made to the Martin Luther Home Activities Fund or the Verona Volunteer Fire Department.
