Hennessy best choice for Oneida County

-

Let me begin by thanking everyone for the opportunity to meet so many nice people in this legislative district. As the only candidate to walk throughout this district I have renewed my faith in giving back to this community as I have met so many who want to restore the moral fabric and basic values ingrained in them by their forefathers. That hard-work and fair-play will keep us one and together we will meet any challenge and make the next generation a better place to live!

My wife and friends did a great job going along with me and they deserve a personal thank-you. To my opponent I feel strongly we let this community down by not debating in public and showing which one of us has the knowledge, independence and courage of standing up to Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente. Someone needs to for his behavior and control of our money is unforgivable and gone on too long!

I’m reminded of the quote from Harry S. Truman “My opponent and friends say I’m giving them hell but all I’m really doing is telling the truth.”

While the Republican Committee members of the Town of Vernon and Verona seem content in their Letters to the Editor to rewrite history, runaway from debates, claim there’s a sign war and distort the facts of my past voting records and tell you that I’m a bully. I just kept knocking on your doors! Please don’t tell me this is your final message to an overtaxed and cynically treated public?

The latest author of a letter claims I aman old County Legislator whose record shouldn’t count, but wants to be a critic on my Sherrill voting record. This writer doesn’t reside in Sherrill and her comments are not factual nor does she tell you that I led the fight for a property tax cut in 2015. While a small cut, it

was the first in a long time and more should be following!

Since the Oneida County/ state agreement vote, I have done research on the distribution of the proceeds to local governments and it fails in comparison to the three agreements with the Seneca casinos. Our agreement is the only where the money goes to the county rather than the impacted area! Look at Salamanca, population 5,400; they receive about $5 million per year from their agreement! Our agreement we only get what Picente decides and the current $500,000 toward municipalities and VVS is woefully inadequate compared to all other deals made in 2013! Niagara Falls have made over $100 million past 10 years and the county received much less!

These are the funds to build clean water systems for Vernon Center and our rural areas. Sewers to Oneida Castle and other areas, fire equipment to our volunteer fire departments allowing them to update their needs and finally, water mediation along Oneida Creek to prevent flooding in and around the Oneida Castle area!

Let me simply close by asking for your vote on Election Day, Tuesday Nov. 7. Thank you!

Michael Hennessy, Sherrill
