The Oneida Daily Dispatch (Oneida, NY)
Re-elect Magliocca as supervisor
There are a total of 19 Madison County Supervisors representing the many towns, and villages, as well as the City of Oneida. All but the four City of Oneida Supervisors have a direct responsibility in their respective town/village administrations, serving as chairperson or voting member of their town board or council.
While the four Oneida Supervisors have no legislative authority within the city, the one undeniable strength we do have is every county standing committee has at least one Oneida Supervisor as a member. That allows critical insight into all county departments, regarding professional and technical expertise, as well as the tools and specific equipment that each department utilizes to get the job done. These committee assignments become more valuable to thecity if that knowledge is shared with all other elected officials and applicable department heads.
Two years ago during my initial campaign to be your County Supervisor representing Wards 4, 5, & 6, I asked the question: “Howdo you represent the voters who elect you into office, and bring forth the issues affecting their community, if you don’t attend City Council meetings, talk to department heads, the Mayor, and Common Council members on a regular basis?”
The answer to that question then, is the same as it is now: YOU DON’T!
As your Supervisor, I have a responsibility to those who elected me, and a debt to repay. That responsibility is only repaid by active involvement in our city and constant contact with other City of Oneida elected officials.
What do I owe you, as your elected representative? IOU to be involved, and informed, to be outspoken and understanding of the issues that concern you. IOU to voice and address those concerns at BOTH the county and the city level.
Regarding my first termas your Supervisor, I feel I have repaid that debt and helped to usher in a far more cooperative and interactive working relationship between the Mayor, Common Council, and County Supervisors. The Supervisors representing the City of Oneida have been an underutilized resource for our city for too long. Historically, no Supervisors were in attendance for the vast majority of Common Council meetings. That all started to change in January of 2016, at the beginning of my first term.
With your support on Tuesday, Nov. 7, that good work that has been started will continue.
I am elected by you to serve you. If re-elected I will continue to build on relationships between City/County elected officials and departments, I will continue to bring your issues to BOTH the city and the county, and I will continue to respond to your concerns and complaints. I look forward to continue being the MOST informed, the MOST involved, the MOST outspoken, and the Supervisor that MOST understands the issues that impact the citizens of Oneida.
On Tuesday, Nov. 7, please reelect Joseph A. Magliocca as Madison County Supervisor, proudly representing residents of the City of Oneida Wards 4, 5, & 6.
Joe Magliocca, Oneida
