ROME » Robert F. Cole Sr., 88, of Rome, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017 at FaxtonSt. Luke’s Healthcare in New Hartford. He was born in Oneida on Nov. 17, 1929, the son of the late Harold and Mary Lambert Cole. Bob graduated from Oneida High School and enlisted in the US Air Force, serving during the Korean War from 1950 to 1954. On May 25, 1963, hewas united inmarriage to Mary Smith.

Bob was a self-employed contractor for many years, specializi­ng in painting and wallpaperi­ng.

He was an avid golfer and bowler. He played in the Wednesday Night Men’s Golf League at Rome Country Club and was a member of Mohawk Glen Golf Course. Bob rolled several 300 games, including bowling one 300 game in each house inRome, Oneida, and Sylvan Beach, and was inducted into theRome Bowling Hall of Fame.

Surviving besides his wife of 54 years, Mary, are: two daughters, Debbie (John Jr.) Ringlehan of Rome and Lisa (Nathan) Brasie of Westmorela­nd; two sons, Robert Jr. (Charlene) of West Leyden and Richard (Barb Fadel) of Rome; a sister, Barbara Miller of Munnsville; 11 grandchild­ren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins who he was very close to, and a special cousin, Ruth Hargrave. He was predecease­d by a sister, Marilyn Pexton.

Bob’s family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare for their wonderful care and compassion.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church with the Rev. Philip Hearn officiatin­g. Interment will take place in St. Peter’s Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at Nunn and Harper FuneralHom­e, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributi­ons in Bob’s memory may be made to the Faxton-St. Luke’s Foundation.
