SHERRILL >> Bertha Louse Hitchings Wright, 82, of 158 Cottage Place, Sherrill, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017, at Albany Medical Center in the Emergency Room after being stricken at home. She was born on March 14, 1935, in Higginsville, N.Y., a daughter of Peter and Winifred Wesseldine Hitchings. Bertha was a graduate of VVS Central High School, Class of 1953. On Feb. 25, 1955, Bertha was united in marriage to Robert V. Wright Sr., in Oxford, N.Y. Mr. Wright passed away just 26 days prior on Nov. 21, 2017. Bertha was the caretaker of her family. A proud mom to five Air Force veterans, she respected the choices of her children to serve their country and stood behind them with love and prayers. She was always there for her family putting them before herself every time. If she wasn’t at home caring for family, she was out playing Bingo at one of the local spots. Surviving are her six children, Michael Wright, Susan Wright, Paula Wright, David (Mona) Wright, all of Sherrill, Kevin (Michelle) Wright, Albuquerque, N.M., and James (Melissa) Wright, of Chittenango; two brothers, Claude (Janet) Hitchings, James (Terry) Hitchings, all of Higginsville; a sister, Beatrice Albert, of Higginsville; a sister-in-law, Marion Hitchings, of Higginsville; two brothers-in-law, Stanley Roberts, of Vernon, and Michael Costanza, of Canastota; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Bertha was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Winifred; and her siblings, Mary Fargo, Dorothy Wakefield, Peter Hitchings Jr., Winnie Mae Canarelli, Florence Roberts, Isabelle Costanza, and Betsy Hitchings. Bertha and Bob’s family will receive friends on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, from 5-7 p.m. at the Ironside Funeral Home, Inc., 342 Main St., Oneida. They will be laid to rest together in Oneida Castle Cemetery in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made to Sherrill-Kenwood Volunteer Fire Department.
