CHITTENANGO FALLS >> Melda Virgil, 97, formerly of Chittenango Falls, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2017 at the Crouse Community Center in Morrisville. Melda was a life resident of Chittenango Falls. She was employed at the former Accurate Die Castings for 40 years retiring in 1982. She was a past member of the Perryville United Methodist Church, the Fenner Methodist Church and the Chittenango United Methodist Church. She was a past member of the Women of the Moose where she held several offices and was a past volunteer at the V.A. Medical Center. She enjoyed knitting, sewing and crocheting and made many handcrafted items for family, friends and charities. She was predeceased by her husband, George Virgil in 2010. Surviving are her daughters, Barbara Fenner ( Dave) of Chittenango and Wanda Tedford (Harold) of Canastota; her brothers, Durwood Bodley of Kentucky and Marvin Bodley (Muriel) of Jamesville; her sister, Alice Cote of Chazy, N.Y.; six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017 at the G.F. Zimmer Funeral Home, 702 Legion Drive, Chittenango. Calling hours will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service. Spring burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fabius. Contributions in her memory may be made to a favorite charity.
