Merry Christmas to all and Happy New Year

- Carol Weimer

It’s awonderful time of the year, families near and far together enjoying catching up on the family news and old friends that they see perhaps once a year.

It’s here!!! Christmas this Monday. Can you believe it? Are you ready? I’ll bet you still have some Christmas presents to wrap!!! I also believe there are many already with everything wrapped and some people put them right under the tree when they finished wrapping.

At our house if we did that they would be unwrapped as soon as they spotted them under the tree...no willpower. The suspense kills them. Have you delivered or shipped gifts to the people who aren’t coming to your house this year? If you say yes, good for you. There will be people running into the UPS, US Post Office and Federal Express picking up the last minutes...will they be working Sunday, the 24th? If so, there will be people counting on them. Do you get the impression from this that there are people that generally are the same every year? They don’t plan it that way, it just happens and they aren’t alone so they don’t feel bad.

At our house we have an ex- tra week following Christmas Day to still get ready for what is our family’s Christmas Day. I have mentioned before that there is always a problem in some families when the grown children marry. Thus creating two parental sets. When the holidays arrive the question always comes up as to who is attending which home for the sitdown dinner, presents opening, etc. Most couples work it out and plan on attending both homes that one day or in order to have to run that day creating a hectic arrangement or as we have done, celebrate Christmas on NewYear’s Day and it has always been accepted. And we get that extra week from Christmas to NewYear’s to complete all of our tasks. There are manywho have the same plans and usually everyone is happy. They enjoy it because the children play with their newtoys two days instead of one which they get overwhelmed with sometimes.

Whatever your family and get-together do, it’s the “Reason for the Season” for everyone to enjoy the Christmas tree and their beautiful lights and ornaments, the decorations all through the house and outdoors, the Christmas Eve church service, the choirs and their beautiful music, the congregation enjoying all the carols and the delicious dinner prepared for all the company that is in attendance at the table

It’s a wonderful time of the year, families near and far together enjoying catching up on the family news and old friends that they see perhaps once a year. For one and all I wish a MERRY CHRISTMAS AND BLESSED NEW YEAR.
