Courthouse upgrade on schedule
WAMPSVILLE, N.Y. » The Madison County District renovations are on schedule and on budget.
“Everything’s been going well, everything’s been on time,” County Administrator Mark Scimone said. “They’re doing asbestos abatement now and the schedule for the courthouse to be completed is March 2019.”
In 2016, the Madison County Courthouse began close to a $20 million renovation project that would last approximately two and a half years to make a number of changes to the century old building, from making it ADA compliant to doing an overhaul of the electrical systems, plumbing and HVAC.
Contractors have had to fence off the area in front of the courthouse as they perform renovations, posing a small problem for residents who have used the same road for years.
“A lot of people are going into the construction zone,” Scimone said. “We’re working on additional signage on Court street to direct residents to the second driveway.”
Thecountywants tomake sure people come in through the right way and have in- structed residents follow the detour signs and not to enter the fenced off area.
But besides residents driving onto thewrong road, renovations have been going smoothly, Director of Public Facilities John Regan said.
“It’s been pretty much on schedule as we started out with the bidding process and everything,” Regan said. “Everything’s been scheduled out and been on track when we anticipated in July.”
