Tax plan terrible for NY-22

-

Each day we now hear the Republicans and the President tell is how great the tax bill is going to be for the middle income taxpayers. Then our 22nd District Representative runs TV ads telling how great it is. That just shows that she is not in Congress to look out for the voters in her district but is willing to support any lie that Trump and the Republicans tell us.

Our prior Representative Hanna did not toe the party line if it did not benefit the voters in his district. The line being promoted that this is a big tax cut for us is not true. Just do your estimated taxes for 2017 based on the information we are given, I did and I found that I won’t get a reduction in tax but an increase for 2017.

Also the projection that corporations will invest the increased earnings from the lower tax rate and increase employment is not true. In a meeting that the Treasury Secretary with a roomful of corporate executives, he asked them to raise their hands if they were going to invest that money in expansion and job creation. Only two raised their hands. The rest said they would use the added income to buy back stock, thus benefiting investors and of course themselves. At least they were honest. Since Tenney keeps telling us what a great benefit this tax bill will be to us, it raises a question. Is she so dumb that she really doesn’t understand what the bill really does or is she a liar willing to tell us anything to please Trump and Paul Ryan? My guess is that it’s some of both.

As a lifelong registered Republican I am really disap- pointed by the actions of the party and really wish we had Hanna back as our representative. However in about 11 months we can fix part of the problem and elect someone other than Tenney. I would rather have a Democrat who would really look out for the 22nd District voters than a Republican who doesn’t.

Purple ribbon sales help survivors

Visitors to local SavOn convenience stores this October were greeted by walls adorned colorfully with hundreds of purple awareness ribbons! These paper ribbons were sold to help promote awareness during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

On behalf of our agencies and the thousands of survivors we serve in central New York, we thank the community, the Oneida Indian Nation, and SavOn employees for your participation in the second annual 2017 Purple Ribbon campaign! This amazing show of support is incredible. This only reinforces the fact that by working together we can build healthier, violence-free communities.

This was only our second year of Purple Ribbon sales, but we are so pleased to share that the sale surpassed our hopes this year. Thanks to our partners’ invaluable time and effort, $4,197 was raised from donations and ribbons that were sold! All proceeds benefit the local domestic violence programs offered by both YWCA Mohawk Valley and Liberty Resources Help Restore Hope Center. These life-changing, lifesaving services help families right here in our central New York communities and are vital to ending the cycle of domestic violence. We sincerely thank all of the participants for their belief in our work, their generosity, and commitment.

Domestic violence services are free and confidential, available by county-area. For information on YWCA Mohawk Valley, which serves Oneida County please call 315.797.7740. For information on Liberty Resources Help Restore Hope Center, which serves Madison and Chenango Counties (City of Oneida and Norwich areas), please call 1-855-966-9723.
