ONEIDA » Robert M. Kallet, 96, Main Street, died Thursday evening, Dec. 21, 2017, in the Oneida Healthcare Center, shortly after his admission, as a medical patient.

Born in Oneida on June 9, 1921, he was the son of Myron J. “Mike” and Mayme MacNeilly Kallet. A lifelong resident of Oneida, Bob was a graduate of the former Manlius Military Academy, Class of 1939, where he served as the captain of his company, attended Colgate University and enlisted in the United States Army and served for three years during World War II. He married Shirley Lux, in Buffalo, on Aug. 27, 1949. Mrs. Kallet died on Feb. 2, 2002.

Mr. Kallet was associated with the family business for nearly 70 years, Kallet Theatres, Inc., which was founded by his father and comprised of over 50 theaters and real estate throughout Central New York, the Catskills and the Adirondack­s. He served on the boards of the former Oneida Savings Bank (from 1954-1996), where he was also chairman of the board and the Hinman Foundation, served as a board member and was chairman of the board of trustees of the former Manlius School when it was merged with the Pebble Hill School, was a former member of the Powhatan and the Oneida Elks Lodge No. 767 and was a former member the Onondaga, Kanon Val- ley, Seven Oaks and Jupiter Hills Country Clubs, and was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church. In 1995, Bob was honored by the Greater Oneida Chamber of Commerce with the Distinguis­hed Service Award. Surviving are his two sons and their wives, Michael R. and Karen Kallet of Fayettevil­le and Douglas E. and Patricia Kallet of Sherrill; his four grandchild­ren, Jeffrey Kallet, Kathryn Kallet, Douglas and his wife, Christina Kallet and Hannah Kallet; and several nieces and nephews. He was predecease­d by his son, Steven L. Kallet on Nov. 4, 1991 and two sisters, Betty Langan in 2010 and Barbara Hamill in 2015.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 28, from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main St., Oneida, with the Rev. James Heidt officiatin­g. Interment will be made in Glenwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home, 3-7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 27.
