Newly-elected officials take oaths of office
Several newcomers were welcomed to the county, including sheriff, county clerk, and town supervisors.
WAMPSVILLE, N.Y. » Madison County has sworn in its newest elected officials.
More than 125 attended the swearing-in ceremony Friday afternoon at the county offices, lead by Madison County Chairman John Becker. Judges Patrick O’Sullivan, Dennis McDermott and Donald Cerio administered the oaths of office.
First to be sworn in was the county’s 56th sheriff, Todd Hood, a career police officer. He retired from the Syracuse Police Department in 2015 after 22 years, during which he was a patrolman, firearms instructor, gang task force detective and squad supervisor. A lifelong resident of Oneida, he has been married to wife Kelly for 24 years and they have three children.
Hood ran against Democrat John Ball, who served as undersheriff during Allen Riley’s tenure as sheriff, and was appointed acting sheriff when Riley took a state commission job. Hood ran on the principle of making the sheriff’s department a better place to work, with a strong emphasis on inter-agency cooperation and task-force policing.
Alongside Hood, Madison County welcomed a new county clerk, assistant district attorney, and three town supervisors.
Michael Keville was sworn in
as the 42nd county clerk. He currently serves as the mayor of Chittenango and is a nine-year member of the Town of Sullivan’s Zoning Board of Appeals. He was also a Chittenango High School teacher for 14 years and a business owner for more than nine. Keville has lived in Madison County for most of his life and currently lives in Chittenangowith his wife Jenny and their four children.
Keville ran against Democrat Ann Jones for the county clerk position.
Yvonne Nirelli was sworn in as the Town of Lincoln Supervisor, Mary Cavanagh as Oneida Supervisor of Wards 1-3 and Tom Boylan as Oneida Supervisor of Wards 4-6.
Nirelli has been a financial planner for 33 years and owner of Securities and Investment Advisors in Canastota for 23 years. She serves on the county ethics advisory council and is the founder of Nirelli Cancer Care Endowment. Nirelli has lived most of her life in Canastota and been a resident of Lincoln for 19 years, where she lives with her husband and their two children.
Cavanagh is a human resource manager and an Oneida Rotarian. She has served as a board member for the Sherrill Silversmith’s Collegiate Baseball Summer League. Born and raised in the city of Oneida, she has also raised three children in the city.
Boylan has been a business owner for more than 20 years and served as a member for both profit and non-profit boards. He also served in the United States Marine Corps for six years. He is a lifelong resident of Oneida, where he lives with his wife and three children.
