New Year’s Eve

Come ring in the “noon” year at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse with entertainm­ent, a dance party and New Year’s Eve celebratio­n from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today.

The celebratio­n keeps bedtime in mind with countdown and a toast with sparkling juice at noon.

The event is free with zoo admission.

Canastota Public Library

Stop in the library for the Orphan Artwork Sate during January to benefit the Dolly Parton Imaginatio­n Library.

Canastota Public Library will be closed on Jan. 1 for the celebratio­n of the New Year.

The library now has Canastota Toots from 1920-2007 available digitally.

Oneida Library

Oneida Public Library will be closed Monday, Jan. 1 to celebrate the New Year. The library will be open as usual on Tuesday, Jan. 2.

On Tuesday, Jan. 2 at 7:30 p.m., Youth Services Coordinato­r Megan Gillander hosts a reception for student artists who contribute­d their artwork for considerat­ion in a library mascot contest. She will announce the winning design at the reception .

Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 8 and 9 from 9:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. AARP trained instructor­s offer a two-day classroom defensive driving course for potential discounts on car insurance. To register, call Bob Fish at (315) 3630455.

Junior book club

The Wild and Wonderful Readers junior book club will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 2 at 3:30 p.m. in the Cazenovia Public Library Story Garden Room. The group will discuss Sharon Draper’s “Out of My Mind,” a 2012 novel that spent two years on the New York Times best-seller list.
