Cops arrest 2 in drug bust

ONEIDA, N.Y. » Two Oneida city residents are behind bars after being arrested for selling drugs.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Investigat­ors, with the City of Oneida Police Department, raided a Madison Street residence on Wedne sday, Jan. 3, where they found the alleged suspects.

Spring Benjamin, 29, of Madison Street, was charged with third- degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, a class B felony; third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class B felony; fifth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, a class D felony; fifth degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony; fourth degree conspiracy, a class E felony; and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeano­r.

Benjamin was arraigned at the City of Oneida Court and held at Madison County Jail on $50,000 bail or $100,000 bond.

Police say Benjamin was in possession of about $1,000

worth of cocaine. During a subsequent search of her residence, investigat­ors found additional evidence of packaging and residue consistent with the possession, sales, and use of cocaine and other drugs.

During her appearance in Oneida City Court on Jan. 5, the Oneida City Police also charged her for the possession of the cocaine, including charges of third- degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class B felony; fourth- degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class C felony; and seventh- degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeano­r.

Benjamin, all ready in- carcerated for the Madison County charges, was arraigned on the new charges and returned to Madison County Jail.

Tavius Desantis, 25, of Madison Street, was charged with third degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, a class B felony; third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, class B felony; fifth degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, a class D Felony; fifth degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony; fourth degree con- spiracy, a class E felony; and seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeano­r.

Desantis was arraigned in Oneida City Court and held at Madison County Jail on $50,000 bail or $100,000 bond.
