Tractor safety program
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Madison County is offering tractor safety and certification for 14 and 15 year olds.
The 4-H Tractor and Safety Certification Course starts on Feb. 26 and ends on April 2.
Sessions will be held at the following locations: Morrisville State College, Cazenovia Equipment, Gold Star Feed and Grain, White’s Farm Supply, Stockbridge Valley School, Kelsey’s Monafran Farms and Madison Central School.
The seven course session will cover many aspects of farm safety with an emphasis on safely operating farm equipment and safety around animals.
To successfully complete the program, participants will need to attend all sessions and pass borth a written exam and a practical driving test.
As part of the program, participants will have the chance to practice driving tractors and skid--
steers during two Saturday sessions on March 10 and March 24.
The Cornell Cooperative Extension highly encourages participants to attend to ensure that everyone is comfortable operating equipment before the mandatory driving test.
Completing the course earns participants a certificate from the Department of Labor. Employers are required by law to ask for this certificate before hiring 14 and 15 year olds to work on their farm.
The 4-H Tractor Safety and Certification Course class fee is $10 and includes the manual and all printed materials. Enrollment is require before the first session.
