ONEIDA 62, HOLLAND PATENT 53 » Oneida entered Friday’s boys hoops playoffs on the road and as the No. 13 seed against No. 4 Holland Patent.

Neither seemed to bother Jeff Didio’s side as Oneida shook up the Section III Class B playoff bracket with a 62-53 win.

Seniors John Jones and Alex Vaccaaro forced the issue with the Holland Patent defense, pacing the Oneida attack with 15 and 13, respective­ly.

Collin Corrigan led HP and all scorers with 19 points, and teammate Josh Ernst supplied 16.

Oneida outscored Holland Patent by five points in the first half to grab a 32-27 lead before giving a point back to the hosts in the third quarter, but balanced contributi­ons on offense helped the visitors hang on down the stretch for the 62-53 win.

Oneida junior guard Vinny Leibl also reached double figures for the visitors, posting 10, followed by Scott Potter and Jacob Vaccaro with eight each.

Forged in the brutally tough Tri-Valley league with state-ranked teams such as Rome Free Academy, Utica Notre Dame, and Vernon-Verona-Sherrill all on its regular season docket, Oneida will look to continue its upset-minded approach during a Tuesday, Feb. 20 tilt with No. 4 seed Homer. VERNON-VERONA-SHERRILL 68, CLINTON48 » Vernon-Verona-Sherrill raced out to a 24-10 advantage over visiting Clinton in a second round Section III Class B playoff battle on Friday and never looked back, cruising to a 68-48 win.

Davey Moffett poured in a game-high 22 points, adding 11 boards for a double-double to pace the No. 2 seed Red Devils. Jake Engler followed right behind with 20 points of his own to go with seven assists. Nate Palmer collected 12 points and eight assists while manning the point for VVS.

Andrew Roden and TJ Horodnick joined Moffett in the effort on the glass, posting eight rebounds each as VVS tallied 33 de- fensive boards to limit Clinton’s second- chance opportunit­ies.

Matt Hobika posted a 20-point game to lead the Clinton attack.

The win sends VVS to the Class B quarterfin­als for a 2-7 seed contest against General Brown on Tuesday, Feb. 20. CHITTENANG­O 66, INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY SYRACUSE CENTRAL 45 » It was raining 3-pointers in Chittenang­o on Friday.

The Bears netted 12 3-pointers on the night and used a 25-7 third quarter to secure a 66-45 win over No. 14 seed ITSC in the second round of Section III Class B playoff action.

Zach Falkenburg and Dylan Voutsinas dropped 19 points a piece to lead Chittenang­o and all scorers in the win. Voutsinas’ game-high tally included five makes from distance. Matt Lanphear added 13, burying a trio of 3-pointers for Chittenang­o.

Angel Gomez paced ITSC with 15.

Chittenang­o, the Class B 3-seed, will advance to the quarterfin­als for a showdown with No. 6 Lowville on Tuesday, Feb. 20. AGE 40 » Faith Heritage was able to slow the potent Madison attack enough in the first half of Friday’s Section III Class D playoff tilt to head into the halftime intermissi­on tied at 23-23.

The No. 3 Blue Devils found their offense in the second half, exploding for 43 points as they cruised to a 66- 40 victory.

Spencer Haviland led Madison and all scorers with 24 points, followed by Sam Matteson’s 20-point effort and 16 points from Colton Stone.

Shahad Sullivan netted 13 points to pace Faith Heritage.

Madison will advance to face No. 11 Waterville - one of three teams to best the Blue Devils this season - on Wednesday, Feb. 21.
