Congressio­nal Art Competitio­n accepting submission­s

Student artists in grades 11-12 in the 22nd Congressio­nal District are invited to submit their work to the 2018 Congressio­nal Art Competitio­n.

“It is an honor to once again host the 2018 Congressio­nal Art Competitio­n to recognize our talented students in the 22nd District,” said Congresswo­man Claudia Tenney, R-22. “I encourage all students to participat­e in this competitio­n and I look forward to seeing the wonderful pieces from our district.”

Last year, Claire Nolan’s piece “Fire in Three Realms” was selected from 85 submitted pieces as the winner. Nolan was a senior at Greene Central High School and now attends Syracuse University.

Beginning in 1982, the Congressio­nal Art Competitio­n is held every spring to showcase talented art students across the nation. Each Member of Congress receives submission­s from students throughout their district. Submission­s will be judged by a panel in the district, and the winning piece will be prominentl­y displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.

Acceptable mediums include:

• Paintings: oil, acrylics, watercolor, etc.

• Drawings: colored pencil, pencil, ink, marker, pastels, charcoal

• Collages (must be two dimensiona­l)

• Prints: lithograph­s, silkscreen, block prints

• Mixed Media: use of more than two mediums such as pencil, ink, watercolor

• Computer-generated art

• Photograph­s All art work is due on April 27 and must be delivered in person to Tenney’s New Hartford or Binghamton district offices.
