Walk and learn about health

-

Walk with a Doc combines a casual walk with a healthcare lesson focusing on gastrointestinal health.

HAMILTON » Community Memorial Family Health Centers encourage area residents to lace up and attend the second in a series of Walk With a Doc events held at the Class of 1965 Arena at Colgate University on Sunday, March 18 at 2:30 p.m.

“Walk With a Doc” is inspired and led by family medicine provider Paula Welsh, nurse practitioner from the Hamilton Family Health Center. The program combines a one mile casual walk with a brief, informative healthcare lesson, which focuses on gastrointestinal health.

According to the American Heart Association, walking is the simplest positive change one can make to improve heart health. Thirty minutes a day can reduce the risk of coronary heart disease, improve blood pressure and blood sugar levels, and enhance mental well-being. Walking also helps reduce the risk of osteoporosis, breast cancer, colon cancer, and

non-insulin dependent (type 2) diabetes.

“Walk With a Doc” program is a series of events held once a month throughout the year on Sunday afternoon. Additional dates include April 15 and May 20.

New healthcare topics are covered at each session. The free events are held rain or shine. Registration is encouraged for the event at walkwith- adoc.org/our-locations/hamilton-ny/
