Students, faculty take a stand for kindness
High school participates in day of action in remembrance of Parkland victims
VERONA, N.Y. » Students at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill made a stand for kindness on Wednesday in memory of the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting victims.
Nationwide, students participated in National School Walkout Day from 10 a.m. to 10:17 a.m. -- one minute for each of the 17 victims killed at the Parkland, Florida high school last month. At VVS, however, the student body instead focused on 17 Acts of Kindness.
“We hope to have hundreds of acts of kindness in memory of the Stoneman Douglas victims”, said high school principal Andy Brown. Activities included: •Kindness quote of the day •Kindness morning announcement •Kindness posters •Kindness jar with kindness suggestions made by students •Kindness act drawings •Kindness pledge •Kindness classroom discussions
Whi le students who wanted to participate in the walk out were allowed to gather in the auditorium, Brown said they were encouraged to participate in showing acts of kindness, instead.
“We applaud the conversations and actions of our students to keep our school safe,” said school officials. Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School students participated in 17 Acts of Kindness on Wednesday, March 14, 2018, in memory of the 17students and faculty killed at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., last month. The school encourages students and the community to show hundreds of acts of kindness in memory of those killed.
