Local singer to host award-winning gospel groups

UTICA, NY. » Three top gospel musical groups will bring their national awardwinni­ng sound to New York state in 2018.

The concert events will be held at Crosspoint Church, 317 Oriskany Blvd., in Whitesboro. Utica-based, award-winning singersong­writer Sherry Anne, who was born with a bilateral hearing and speech impairment, will host and sing as a special guest at all three events.

On Saturday, March 31, America’s Favorite Family of Southern Gospel Music, The Hoppers will visit Whitesboro. Members of the family have been singing for more than 60 years, including appearance­s at Carnegie Hall and worldwide. The Gospel Music Hall of Fame group that began with four brothers today includes Claude and Connie Hopper, their son Dean and his wife, Kim, sonMike, and granddaugh­ter Karlye.

The Hoppers have performed on Gaither Homecoming videos and have won 47 fan awards, including favorite mixed vocal group 11 times, favorite alto, and favorite musician. Kim has been voted the Singing News Fans Favorite Soprano for 21 years straight. Their many popular hit songs include “Jesus,” “The One,” “Jerusalem,” “I’ve Come Too Far,” and “Shoutin’ Time.”

Triumphant Quartet visits Whitesboro on Sunday, June 3. The award-winning foursome made their debut appearance at the Louise Mandrell Theater in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., in 2003, began traveling nationally in 2008, andhas been voted The SingingNew­s Southern Gospel Fan Favorite Quartet for the last nine years. The group consists of Eric Bennett, David Sutton, and father and son Clayton and Scotty Inman.

When the group sings “TheOldWhit­e Flag” about surrenderi­ng one’s life to Jesus, audiences often break out handkerchi­efs and tissues to join in the fun. The current No. 1 charting hit for Triumphant Quartet is “Chain Breaker.” Their most recent album, titled “Living in Harmony,” was selected Favorite Album with Favorite Song “Living in the Promised Land” by The Singing News poll in 2017, and Eric Bennett was voted Favorite Bass Singer.

On Friday, Oct. 19, The Booth Brothers will bring their award-winning, faith- filled program of harmony and humor to Whitesboro. Ronnie and Michael Booth grew up on gospel music with their dad, Ron Sr., who traveled with his three brothers as the Booth Brothers and later sang with the Rebels Quartet and other groups. Over time, the two brothers formed a trio with JimBrady. When Brady left to form his own group in 2015, the brothers welcomed Paul Lancaster at tenor-baritone. With Brady or Lancaster alongside, The Booth Brothers have been voted The Singing News readers’ Fan Favorite Trio since 2008.

Since 1998, The Booth Brothers have received more than 10 dozen honors, Grammy nomination­s, and the 2016 Dove Award for Southern Gospel Album of the Year. They have been featured in Gaither Homecoming videos. Their many popular songs include “He Saw It All,” “Look for Me at Jesus’ Feet,” “Facts are Facts,” and “Still Feeling Fine.”
