Red Cross benefits from United Way support

-

The American Red Cross has been proudly serving Madison County for more than 100 years. The local chapter was chartered on April 6, 1917 and we have been a continuing presence ever since.

Today’s Red Cross in Madison County is powered by nearly 100 volunteer heroes who give of their time, talents and compassion to fulfill our vital humanitarian mission of preventing and alleviating human suffering. They are people from your neighborhood who collect blood from generous donors; teach First Aid, CPR, water safety and other life-saving skills; provide comfort to members of the military, veterans and their families; install free smoke alarms to help keep our neighbors safer; and help people affected by home fires, floods and other disasters.

Following the snowstorm and power outages during this first weekend in March, volunteers operated a shelter at the Oneida Recreation Center, offering warmth, food, water, and comfort to impacted residents.

Our work is only possible through the dedication of volunteers and generous community support. On behalf of the Red Cross, I extend our appreciation to residents for their investment in the United Way of Greater Oneida. By joining with the Red Cross to give back to those in need, our long-standing partnership with the United Way ensures that we deliver help and hope year-around.

You truly make a difference with your support of the United Way of Greater Oneida and the American Red Cross. Thanks to the continuing support of our neighbors, we’re looking forward to the next 100 years and beyond. Kenneth J. Turner, interim chief executive officer, American Red Cross — Western and Central
