4 nabbed in meth bust

SMITHFIELD, N.Y. » Amedical call lead to a methamphet­amine bust Friday in the town of Smithfield.

Madison County Sheriff’s Office deputies and investigat­ors responded to 5370 Peterboro Road in the Town of Smithfield to assist medical personnel with a report of a man who was bleeding. Shortly after arrival, investigat­ors say they observed items used to manufactur­e methamphet­amine and a methamphet­amine lab.

The Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Contaminat­ed Crime Scene Emergency Response Team searched the premises and located finished methamphet­amine products and several other items that were used to manufactur­e the methamphet­amine.

Four people were charged with third- degree manufactur­ing methamphet­amine, a Class D felony; fifth-degree conspiracy, a Class A misdemeano­r; and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a Class A misdemeano­r.

•Donald J. Ciani, 40, of 5370 Peterboro Road, Oneida

•Mark J. Morey Jr., 34, of 6460 Route 5, Vernon

•Harold F. Ortman Jr., 35, of 5370 Peterboro Road, Oneida

•Connie A. Thurston, 37, of 5370 Peterboro Road, Oneida

All subjects were arraigned at the Town of Smithfield Court. Ciani, Morey and Or tman were all held at Madison County Jail. Thurston was released on her own recognizan­ce. All subjects are scheduled to appear at court at a later date to answer the charges.
