MADISON » Chad Chapman, an investigator and deputy sheriff of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, was recently selected by The American Legion as the Madison County and Post No. 1556 Law and Order Law Enforcement Officer of the Year.
The Law and Order Award recognizes wellrounded public service candidates who have exceeded expected duties of their position. “Since its founding in 1919, The American Legion stands steadfast in the support of a strong national defense, which includes that of law enforcement,” said Joseph Barilla Sr., Madison County American Legion Law and Order Committee chairman.
Chapman, a deputy in Madison County since 2009, began as a road patrol deputy. He pursued certifications in accident reconstruction, evidence and property management, and level II arson investigation. He started what is now known as the Madison County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit.
Chapman has since completed nine weeks of accident reconstruction, became National Pro Board Certified as an arson investigator and certified as a Cellebrite Physical Analyst. In 2017, he was assigned the title of Crime Scene Investigator and assigned as an attachment to the Criminal Investigations Department. Chapman’s certifications enable him to assist in investigations by any fire or law enforcement agency in Madi- son County, and make him a uniquely qualified asset for the Sheriff’s Office.
According to Bill Jenkins, commander of the Madison County and Post No. 1556 American Legion, Chapman’s service to this community is “exceptionally impressive” and reflects credit upon all law enforcement officers. Madison County Sheriff Todd Hood and Undersheriff Robert Lenhart were on hand for the award presentations at Post No. 1556 in Madison.
