School budget votes today
School budget votes will today across the state. The following is a brief look at local budget proposals.
Canastota Central School District
• Budget vote - Tuesday, May 15 from noon to 9 p.m.
• The proposed 2018-2019 budget adopted by the Canastota Board of Education is $30.25 million, a 2 percent increase fromthe 2017-2018 budget.
• The proposed tax levy increase totals $211,060 or 1.8 percent and would mean a $43 increase on a $100,000 home before STAR.
• Proposition 2 - Authorize the Canastota Central School District to purchase and finance three 65 passenger busses and one 28 pas- senger wheelchair accessible bus not to exceed the sumof $470,000.
• Proposition 3 - Authorize the Canastota Central School District to levy and collect an annual tax, year after separate and apart from the annual school district budget in the amount of $334,822 which will be paid to the Canastota Public Library for support and maintenance.
• Two seats on the Board of Education are up for vote among three candidates: Deborah New, Kathleen Niles and Timothy Devine.
Cazenovia Central School District
• Budget vote - Tuesday, May 15 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
• The proposed 2018-2019 budget adopted by the Cazenovia Board of Education is $29.65 million, a 4 percent increase from the 2017-2018 budget.
• The proposed spending plan will rely on a two percent tax levy increase that is greater than the -1.09 percent allowable under the New York state’s tax cap legislation and will require approval by more than 60 percent of voters.
• The Cazenvoia Central School District said the levy increase is necessary due to $200,000 of targeted increases in health, safety
and security. In addition, the school district will see an increase in employee salaries, workers’ compensation, health insurance, and NYS Teachers’ Retirement costs.
• Foundation aid is up $126,092, but total state aid is down $85,930 from last year.
• Proposition 2 - authorize to borrow funds to purchase three 66-passenger school busses and two 22-passenger school busses at a maximum cost of $421,223 over a five year period, with 63.3 percent being refunded by New York state.
• Proposition 3 - Authorize the levy of a library tax to support the Cazenovia Public Library with $410,121 and the New Woodstock Free Library with $171,097 for a total of $581,218.
Chittenango Central School District
• Budget vote - Tuesday, May 15 from noon to 9 p.m.
• The proposed 20182019 budget adopted by the Chittenango Central School District is $39.27 million, a 3 percent increase from the 2018-2018 budget.
• The proposed spending plan will rely on a 1.8 percent tax levy increase.
• Proposition 2 - authorize the Chittenango Central School District to purchase five 71 passenger school busses totalling $560,000.
• Proposition 3 - authorize funding for Sullivan Free Library totalling $544,889
Hamilton Central School District
• Budget vote - Tuesday, May 15 from noon to 8 p.m.
• The proposed 20182019 budget adopted by the Hamilton Board of Education is $12.96 million, a 3 percent increase from the 2017-2018 budget.
• The proposed spending plan will rely on a 2.8 percent tax levy increase.
• Proposition 2 - authorize the Hamilton Central School District to purchase two school buses not to exceed $180,000.
• Proposition 3 - authorize the Hamilton Central School District to levy a tax in the amount of $132,535 and pay the trustees of the Hamilton Public library for the support and basis of the library.
• One Board of Education seat is up for vote between Stephanie Fadale or G. Cory Duclos
Madison Central School District
• Budget vote - Tuesday, May 15 from noon to 8 p.m.
• The proposed 20182019 budget adopted by the Madison Central School District is $9.95 million, a 1 percent decrease from the 2017-2018 budget.
• The proposed spending plan will rely on a two percent tax levy increase.
• Proposition 2 - authorize the Madison Central School District to purchase two 71 passenger busses not to exceed the cost of $226,620.84.
• Proposition 3 - Authorize the Board of Education to expend up to $100,000 for the reconstruction project at the main school building with up to $100,000 of the cost to be expended from the fund balance.
• Two Board of Education seats are up for vote between Jennifer Lavoie, Laurie Bono Zbock and Robert Hayduke.
Morrisville-Eaton Central School District
• Budget vote - Tuesday, May 15 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• The proposed 20182019 budget adopted by the Morrisville-Eaton Central School District is $16.5 million, a 3 percent increase from the 2017-2018 budget.
• The proposed spending plan will rely on a 3.99 percent tax levy increase.
• Proposition 2 - authorize the Morrisville-Eaton Central School District to purchase three school buses at an estimated cost not to exceed $342,213.
Oneida City School District
• Budget vote - Tuesday, May 15 from noon to 9 p.m.
• The proposed 20182019 budget adopted by the Oneida City School District Board of Education is $46,550,725, a 5 percent increase from the 2017-2018 budget.
• Proposed increase in monthly school tax on $100,000 home - $4.97
• Proposed increase in monthly school tax with basic STAR exemption - $3.48
• Proposed increase in monthly school tax with enhanced STAR exemption - $1.65
• Other proposition: enter a five-year lease for five 70-seat passenger school busses not to exceed the estimated cost of $108,000.
• Two schoolboard seats currently held by Hank Leo and Gail Whipple will be voted on at this year’s school district vote and Martin Kelly and James Maio have submitted a petition to appear on the ballot.
Stockbridge Valley Central School District
• Budget vote - Tuesday, May 15 from 10a.m. to 8p.m.
• The proposed 20182019 budget adopted by the Stockbridge Valley Central School District Board of Education is $10.95 million, a 6 percent increase fromthe 2017-2018 budget.
• The proposed spending plan will rely on a 1.96 percent tax levy increase.
• Four school boardseats currently held by Herb Bingel, Lindsey Cross, Barbary Reaves and Thomas Hollingsworth are up for vote.
Vernon-VeronaSherrill School District
• Budget vote - Tuesday, May 15 from noon to 9 p.m.
• The proposed 20182019 budget adopted by the Vernon-Verona-Sherrill School District Board of Education is $37.2 million, a 1.7 percent increase from the 2017-2018 budget.
• The proposed spending plan will rely on a 2.76 percent tax levy increase.
