Canastota: Memorial services will be held at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 28at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. The Memorial Day Parade will begin at 10a.m., followed by services at Clark Park. Rev. Dr. Tom Hast will be the guest speaker at 11a.m. Cazenovia: Cazenovia’s Memorial Day parade will be held Monday, May 28. The Cazenovia American Legion Post 88Color Guard will step off the parade to Memorial Park from the corner of Emory Avenue and Forman Street in front of the high school at 10:30a.m. rain or shine. Parade groups should start lining up at 10a.m. Those organizati­ons wishing to march in the parade should contact the parade coordinato­rs Kevin Markowski (315-662-7510), John Haynes (315-815-4168) or Ron McDermott (315-8077185) for informatio­n. Due to the solemn nature of Memorial Day, the Legion asks that there be no commercial or political activity in this parade and no candy thrown. All veterans are welcome and encouraged to march. Vehicles will be available for those veterans who feel the long walk would be too strenuous. Veterans needing transporta­tion to the parade and/or needing a ride in the parade should call Gene Gissin (315-655-2224) or John Colligan (315-655-2233) to make arrangemen­ts. The parade will rest at Memorial Park at 11a.m. where Legion Commander Richard Benner will serve as Master of Ceremonies. Joining him for a moment of reflection on the 100th anniversar­y of World War 1will be Post 88 member and military historian Frank Stritter who will read the poem “In Flanders Field” written by Lt. Col. John McCrae (1872-1918) of the Canadian Army. Guest speaker will be Lt. General of the United States Air Force (Retired) Michael J. Basla, a native of Syracuse. All parade participan­ts are invited to the Cazenovia Fire House for a light lunch after the parade. Other Memorial Day events will be: At 12:30p.m. a memorial service will also be held by Post 88members in their Garden of Honor located in front of the Post 88’s home at 26Chenango St. to honor veterans buried in all of our community cemeteries. Graveside flags and regular flags are available at The Chamber of Commerce, 51 Albany St., Gissin Photograph­y, 25Williams St., and the American Legion, 26 Chenango St. Graveside flags for deceased veterans will be available at no cost. Post 88’s Legion and Auxiliary members along the parade route will offer the traditiona­l poppy on Monday, May 28and on Saturday May 26before Memorial Day. Merchant locations for Saturday are Tops Market, Buyea’s, and Kinney Drugs. For those veterans who wish to participat­e in the 8 a.m. Delphi Falls Memorial Day parade should meet at 6:30a.m. at Dave’s Diner for breakfast and coordinati­on. Durhamvill­e: The Durhamvill­e (ANM) Veterans Club will hold its 68th annual Memorial Day services on Monday, May 28starting at 9:30a.m. at the World War I Memorial at the corner of Broad and Church streets, across from the Durhamvill­e Fire Department. The service will continue at the clubhouse at the corner of Canal and John streets, next to the post office. Guest speaker will be Sgt. Michael Hilts, United States Army. A reception will immediatel­y follow the ceremonies, where all are welcome. Sherrill: Sherrill American Legion Post 230works with the City of Sherrill to coordinate the Memorial Day parade. The parade will follow a new route this year. Lineup will take place in the parking lot and greenspace in front of the Sherrill Community Activity Center at 139East Hamilton Ave. The parade will start at Sherrill Road and East Hamilton Ave and continue down Sherrill Road to Memorial Park across from Sherrill City Hall. Anyone who wants to participat­e can park and line up at the CAC at 8:30a.m. The parade will start at approximat­ely 8:45a.m. There will be a ceremony in Memorial Park following the parade at approximat­ely 9a.m. After the ceremony everyone is invited to the Legion for free food and drinks. Vernon: Vernon will hold its Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 28at 11 a.m. beginning at American Legion Post 404. Vernon Center: The Memorial Day Parade will begin at 9a.m. on Monday, May 28at the Vernon Center Volunteer Fire Department. Verona: The Verona Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6811will conduct a Memorial Day Parade and Service on Monday May 28at 12:30 p.m. The parade will form at Route 31 and Main Street and proceed along to the Memorial Park. Fifth grade students from the J.D. George elementary school will read their essays “What Memorial Day Means to Me.” The speaker will be Samuel Getman a lifelong resident of Verona. Flags will be placed on graves of all known veterans in the Town of Verona. Civic groups are invited to take part in the parade. For informatio­n, contact Verona VFW at (315) 363-9327.

Wampsville: The Madison County War Veterans Memorial will hold services on Wednesday, May 30at the War Veterans Memorial located on 138North Court Street. Services start at 10:30a.m. United States Army WWII Veteran Horace Keller will be a guest speaker.
