Oneida >> Leona M. Haley, 90, of 314 Summit Ave., passed away on Friday, May 25, 2018, at her home surrounded by her loving family under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care. She was born on Dec. 16, 1927, in Rome, the daughter of Wallace and Mary Tailon Theall. Leona was a graduate of Rome Free Academy, Class of 1946. On Feb. 11, 1950, Leona was united in marriage to Joel B. Haley in St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Rome. Mr. Haley passed away on Aug. 16, 1991. A devote Catholic, Leona was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Oneida and a member of Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites of Utica. She taught religion and RCIA at St. Patrick’s for many years. She loved knitting, sewing, and playing cards with her family. Surviving are four daughters, Margaret Wills, of Swananoa, N.C., Virginia Miller, of Bronson, Fla., Theresa (Michael) Lemmens, of Las Vegas, Nev., Veronica Dale, of Oneida; eight sons, Joel B. Haley Jr., of Marion, N.C., Paul J. (Betsy) Haley, of Sherrill, Thomas W. (Jackie) Haley, of Oneida, Christophe­r J. Haley, of Irondequoi­t, David F. (Laurel) Haley, of Oneida, Peter M. (Carolyn) Haley, of Bronson, Fla., Stephen A. (Eileen) Haley, of Oneida, and Richard V. (Paula) Haley, of Oneida; 29 grandchild­ren; 25 great-grandchild­ren; several great greatgrand­children; and many nieces and nephews. Leona was predecease­d by a son, Michael G. Haley, on Oct. 1, 2011; four grandchild­ren, Daniel, Amparo, Peter Jr., Stephanie; a son-in-law, Lawrence Miller; a sister, Marjorie Edick; and three brothers, Wallace Theall Jr., James Theall, and Joseph Theall. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at 9:15 a.m. beginning with a prayer service at the Ironside Funeral Home, Inc., followed by her funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church. Interment will take place in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Family and friends are invited and may call on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home, 342 Main St., Oneida.
