ONEIDA, N.Y. » After almost three years, the stretch of Lenox Avenue between Sayles Street and Walmart is finally getting repaved.

An electronic sign went up Tuesday afternoon warning motorists that paving will begin June 15 and to expect delays. The road was torn up last week in preparation for the repaving.

The roadwork is part of a multi-part state DOT project that included repaving parts of Route 5 and adding a sidewalk along Lenox Avenue up to the Five Corners.

The intent of this project, as per the official New York DOT website, is to “improve traffic flows, restore pavement, and modernize the signal systems at two intersections as well as ensure ADA compliance within the project limits.”

The two signal systems in question are at the intersections of Lenox and Broad street, as well as 365A and Route 5. Additional intentions of the project are to decrease the number of lanes from four to two between Willow Meadow Way and Stone Street, as well as to resurface pavement along the route. Sidewalks will also be renovated in accordance to the Americans with Disabilities

Act regulations.

The contract for the Lenox Avenue construc- tion project was originally awarded on Sept. 4, 2015 with a projected June 2016 completion date after a six-month delay. More delays then pushed project completion to the fall of 2017.
