Wesley Hood Jr., son of Wesley and Jacqueline Hood, graduated from the University of Pittsburgh on April 29, 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in English. Hood, a 2014 Canastota graduate, will be attending the University of New Hampshire’s Master of Fine Arts in Nonfiction Writing programin the fall.

Griffith, the son of Thomas and TraceyGriffith, was a member of the Engineering Club at King’s. He was also a member of the college’s swimteamfor two years.

• Patrick Karmis of Cazenovia, a senior at Clarkson University majoring in mechanical engineering, received the Commendable Leadership Award for Juniors during the spring semester. This award is presented to juniors, seniors, graduate students, faculty, staff and administration members who have demonstrated outstanding leadership abilities and quality participation in organizations associated with Clarkson and the Potsdam community.
• Michaela Greenwood of Hamilton received the Rising Star Award at Cazenovia College’s 15th Annual Student Leaders Celebration.
The Rising Star Award is given to students who have developed their leadership qualities by taking advantage of the opportunities the Office of Student Life provides for students to explore and develop their leadership potential. This includes opportunities to live in a Learning Community, participate in student clubs, or serve as Resident Advisors.
• Cazenovia College’s 15th Annual Student Leaders Celebration recognized the contributions students, staff, and faculty made to enrich the Cazenovia College experience. The following local students were among those honored:
Adrianna Baker of DeRuyter was inducted to the Sigma Alpha Pi National Society for Leadership and Success.
Michaela Greenwood of Hamilton was inducted to the Sigma Alpha Pi National Society for Leadership and Success and was recognized as a Leader Scholar (above 3.70 GPA).
Garret Hansen of Cazenovia received an Honorary Membership to the Sigma Alpha Pi National Society for Leadership and Success.
Abigail Kopylczak of Cazenovia was recognized as a Leader Scholar (above 3.70 GPA).
• Jennifer Galavotti of Canastota was recognized by The College of Saint Rose on March 24 at the annual Honors Convocation. Galavotti received the William and Camille Ruggiero O37 Endowed Honors Internship Award, established in 2011 to honor William and Camille Ruggierowhowere deeply interested in business and in many aspects of giving back to their communities. The fund is in support of student tuition scholarships, as well as tuition expenses for students participating in the Honors Internship Program in the summer between their junior and senior years.
• Matthew Collado of Chittenango qualified for the Spring 2018 Dean’s List at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn.
• Josh Cretaro of Canastota graduated magna cum laude from Bridgewater College on May 5, 2018. Cretaro majored in history and political science.
• The following local residents graduated from the State University of New York at Potsdam on Saturday, May 19:
Brittany Geiler of Chittenango graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in biochemistry.
Nathaniel Race of Eaton graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree in English/creative writing and philosophy.
LukeWeisbrod of Canastota received a bachelor of science degree in business administration.
• Gabrielle Babowicz of Oneida was welcomed into Mortar Board National Honor Society on April 10, at the Western New England University chapter’s annual induction ceremony. Mortar Board, the senior honor society at WesternNewEnglandUniversity, is open to those students who have demonstrated both academic excellence and leadership on campus and in the community.
