MUNNSVILLE » Elizabeth Collins has earned the status of valedictor­ian of the Stockbridg­e Valley Class of 2018.

Collins, the daughter of Barb and Rich Collins of Munnsville, has been accepted at LeMoyne College, Elmira College, Keuka College, Nazareth College, Niagara College, St. Bonaventur­e University, St. John Fisher College and the College of Saint Rose. She plans to attend LeMoyne College and major in Adolescent Education.

Collins has received many awards including Syracuse University Project Advance Award, 2017 Cornell Book Award, Wells College 21st Century Leadership Award, George H. Ball Community Achievemen­t Award and the LeMoyne College Presidenti­al Scholarshi­p. She has been a member of the soccer and volleyball teams, dance, Student Council, Teen Institute, Math Club, FFA, band, chorus, marching band, select choir, National Honor Society, Yearbook Club and Drama Club. She has also served as Class President from 2014-2018.

Collins has volunteere­d numerous hours to community service by participat­ing in the Live Nativity Scene at Christ Church United Methodist in Sherrill, helped with elementary field days, score keeping at various sporting events, tutored younger

students and assisted with set up and cleanup of the All-County Music Festival.

“A personal accomplish­ment of my high school career would be getting the lead role in ‘Mary Poppins’ because I had been working towards that for a long time,” Collins said. “I love being a part of Drama Club and being on stage. That was a definite highlight for me.”

Ashleigh Staudt has earned the distinctio­n of salutatori­an for the Stockbridg­e Valley Class of 2018. Staudt, the daughter of Marc and Leigh Anne Staudt of Munnsville, has been accepted at SUNY Cortland and Morrisvill­e State College. She plans to attend SUNY Cortland in the fall majoring in Physical Education and Health.

Throughout high school, Staudt has participat­ed in varsity soccer, varsity basketball (captain and All Star), Teen Institute (president), Student Council, chorus and FFA. She has accumulate­d community services hours by assisting with the Special Olympics, Red Cross Blood Drives, Toys for Tots, managing youth basketball camps, elementary school field days and working at the PTSO Christmas Bazaar. She has been a member of the National Honor Society, received High Honor Roll status and has served as her class Vice President.

“One of the highlights of my high school career was being a part of the Girls Varsity Basketball team,” Staudt said. “That is because together we made history and brought home the first ever league banner. This was extremely gratifying to me, because just as Mr. Peto told me in third grade, ‘Together everyone achieves more,’ and that’s what our team did.”
