Program focuses on museum collection

ROME, N.Y. » On Thursday, July 19 at 7 p.m., the Rome Historical Society (RHS) will present “Growing the Collection,” a special program featuring items recently donated to the Society.

Every year, dozens of people donate books, photographs, and other objects to local historical societies and museums so that these tangible pieces of the past can be preserved for future generations.

Join RHS Museum Educator Patrick Reynolds as he shows off some of the most historically-significant objects to have found a home at RHS in recent years. Some of these include never-before-seen images from the Peter Leonard Glass Plate Negative Collection, rare and unique Revere ware, 19th century furniture, and more.

The permanent collection of RHS consists of more than 40,000 objects, carefully preserved in 8,400 square feet of climate controlled storage. In addition, the Society’s William E. Scripture Research Library is home to more than 10,000 archived books, documents, photographs, and paper records that aid curious genealogists, property owners, and historians alike.

“As it is the Mission of the Rome Historical Society to actively research, collect, preserve, and present, we continue to cultivate our collection as we have been doing since 1936,” said Executive Director Arthur L. Simmons III.

The Rome Historical Society is located at 200 Church Street, Rome, N.Y., and is a non-profit organization under section 501(c) (3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code. For more information, call 315-336-5870, like them on Facebook, or visit www.romehistoricalsociety.org.
