-

ONEIDA, N.Y. » As an OPL Summer Reading Program bonus, Oneida’s own Doug Salati will come back home July 19 to present in two programs at Oneida Public Library his career-making children’s book, “In a Small Kingdom,” written by the famed children’s author Tomie dePaolo and illustrated by Salati.

The book, published by Simon and Schuster last April, is Salati’s professional debut as a book illustrator. A 2003 graduate of Oneida High School, Salati received his masters in fine arts from the School of Visual Arts in New York and was a 2015 recipient of a Maurice Sendak Foundation’s Sendak Fellowship. He currently lives in Brooklyn working as both illustrator and art teacher.

Salati will be appearing at the OPL Thursday, July 19, at 2 p.m. to present “In a Small Kingdom” to children, from preschoolers to third graders, and their parents or guardians. OPL Youth Services Coordinator Megan Gillander will be on hand to help out with a drawing exercise for the children.

At 6:30 p.m., Salati will return to the library for a special presentation on book illustration and publishing for both adults and young adults. At the program he will show samples of his work to illustrate his points.

At both Salati programs, which are free and open to all, copies of his picture book will be available for sale and signing by the illustrator.

For more information, stop by the library at 220 Broad St., or call 315-3633050.
